Employee Motivation

 What Is Employee Motivation?

This is refers to the level of energy, extent of enthusiasm, and dedication that employees demonstrate in their roles of the encompasses their commitment to their tasks, loyalty to the organization's objectives, and their sense of empowerment to excel and fulfill their capabilities in their daily responsibilities. It goes beyond over completing assigned duty and it reflects how invested employees are in their work, how engaged they are with the organization goals, and how to enable they feel to contribute effectively. Motivated employees are more likely to go above and beyond in their roles, and actively contribute to the success of the organization. Consequently, fostering a culture of motivation is essential for businesses to achieve high levels of productivity, innovation, and employee satisfaction, leading to overall organizational success.

According to the John  Honore  (2009) in an organization  money, product, or profit  is not the valuable asset , instead employees is the most valuable  asset in an organization. By providing a positive work environment and while growing the organization give more opportunities to grow in the organization.

Type of motivations

Extrinsic and intrinsic are the main two type of motivation.

Extrinsic motivation, comes from external factors such as receiving rewards, recognition, winning a contest or competition. It involves engaging in an activity to earn a reward or avoid punishment rather than for the inherent enjoyment or satisfaction derived from the task.

Intrinsic Motivation  come arises from within an individual personal. It is showcase by internal factors such as personal satisfaction, interest, or enjoyment derived from the task itself. this involves engaging in an activity for its inherent rewards rather than for external rewards or incentives.

Maslow’s Hierarchy  Theory

The most popular classification of needs is the one formulated by Abraham Maslow (1954) titled "A Theory of Human Motivation," and in his subsequent book, "Motivation and Personality. Maslow proposed that motivation is the result of a person's attempt at fulfilling five basic needs: physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-actualization.

Stage 1 -  Physiological needs are come with most essential human need such as like food, water, shelter and air. Everything else, Maslow posited, has to come after.

Stage 2 -  Safety needs while With basic needs fulfilled, the next level of needs moves to safety These are things like financial security, freedom from fear, stable health and anything that can lend our day-to-day lives a level of predictability and security.

Stage 3 -  Needs of belonging
One the stage 1 & 2 is compiled human needs change concepts like friendship, community, love, shared experiences and anything that gives humans a sense of belonging among themselves.

Stage 4  -  Esteem needs
This refers to  ultimate condition of human opportunity But first, humans must fulfill esteem needs. Esteem, in this sense, refers to a person’s sense of self and their sense of self in relation to others. This level includes things like dignity, personal achievement.

Stage 5 -  Self-actualization needs
Finally, once a person has all they need to survive, function, and understand their position in the world and their community, they can enter the final portion of the hierarchy. Self-actualization can mean many things, but many of the examples center around a desire to explore, create or expand ones skills. Concepts like beauty, aesthetics and discovery translate into real-world.

Importance of hierarchy of needs

While Maslow's hierarchy of needs is widely utilized and valued by many, it's essential to recognize that it represents just one perspective on human psychology and isn't considered an absolute scientific truth. Critics often argue that the models structure may seem that human needs might be better understood as a continuous spectrum rather than a hierarchical pyramid.

Furthermore, numerous experts still find value in Maslow's framework as a tool for understanding personal well-being and broader questions about human potential.

Benefits of High Employee Motivation?

Every employee looks forward to a reward for their work, with welfare being one such expectation. To assess how employee benefits affect work motivation and productivity, surveys were distributed to companies implementing employee benefit programs.  Key findings from this research include: employee benefit programs tend to influence work motivation more significantly than productivity; monetary benefits are highly valued by both executives and employees alike; there exists a cognitive disparity between management and employees regarding the importance of these programs; diverse benefit preferences are observed among genders, with unmarried individuals placing higher importance on such benefits compared to their married counterparts; employees with varying educational backgrounds and job positions perceive distinct impacts from employee benefits; and younger employees' job performance is notably influenced by these benefit programs  (Chao Hong et al.)

  5. Nice Article. The success of an organization is driven by the motivation of its employees. Employers encourage commitment and initiative by rewarding individual accomplishments, offering chances for professional development, and creating a positive work atmosphere. A workforce that is eager to provide their best is produced when intrinsic motivation is fostered in conjunction with equitable compensation, which increases output and satisfaction.

Money matters, of course, but what's interesting is that what management thinks employees want and what employees actually want can be quite different. further, different people have different preferences when it comes to benefits based on things like gender, education, and job role. And don't forget, benefit programs can really affect how well younger employees do their jobs.
